Lori obtained her law degree from UBC in 1995 and was called to the Bar in 1996. Before going to law school, she received a degree in Arts and Business Administration from SFU. Between University and Law School, she spent 8 months travelling in Europe and spent time working to save for further education. Both Lori and her spouse, Ralph were born and raised in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and now make New Westminster their home, along with their dog.
After articling at the Legal Services Society which, at the time, provided legal aid services in a number of areas including family law, criminal law, employment insurance law and other administrative law matters, she started working for Russell Tretiak as a litigation solicitor in his family law practice. Lori has worked with Russell at First Law Corporation for 19 years. She has gained experience in all aspects of family law including cohabitation agreements, divorce, custody, guardianship, parenting time, child support, spousal support, and asset division for both married and unmarried couples.
The lawyers at First Law Corporation endeavor to settle files to the benefit of their clients. To that end, they often accompany clients to mediation or consult with clients before and during the mediation process if the clients prefer to attend mediation without counsel present. They draft Separation Agreements and also meet with clients to review Separation Agreements drafted by Mediators or other lawyers.
Lori is generally in the office working as a solicitor, drafting materials for use by the barristers in court or in mediation. She also spends time drafting separation agreements as well as marriage or cohabitation agreements. She attends some court matters, especially those directed toward attempts at settling issues, but generally prefers to be in the office. That makes her available for clients. She believes in the barrister solicitor system practiced by Russell at First Law Corporation at Quay Law Centre, both in terms of how it saves money for clients and how it conveniences clients.
Lori believes in ensuring that clients understand the process that they are involved in when they are undergoing a separation or divorce, as well as understanding the options available to them. She is committed to assisting clients in making the most informed decisions possible with respect to their case.
Lori has always been interested in family law as it allows her to interact with clients and provide assistance to clients at an often difficult time in their lives.
